Hey,

I am a Philosophy major at Bard College. I am just a freshman, so it is likely to change, but the reason I am a philosophy major is quite simple - I like thinking about "things" in new, innovative ways - that's what I like about technology, too (the Internet, in particular). I like the technical aspects too, but thinking is so much fun. Philosophy in the beginning can be a little boring and dry, to some people, but it really gets my mind going. I am interested in how people use technology and how it affects our lives - it's amazing how relevant Plato, Descartes, and Nietzsche are to the philosophy behind computation, information, and the Internet.

I love thinking.

Hey there,

I'm a Communication Research major and I have minor in Sociology. I really enjoy my course because it let me express myself, analyze different forms of media and companies as well as interact with a variety of people. I usually have an eye for patterns that is why I also have an interest on Social media. Communication Research can let you specialize on your course by producing conclusions about the social world based on theories. You may also like Sociology which is directly related to Communication. It lets you study different aspects of people such as deviant behavior, group or organizational behavior and another course I have taken is about race and ethnicity.

Hope that helps you in your decision-making.

Hi Anothersamchan,

I am a Commerce major, more specifically, Accounting major. The story behind this major goes a loooong way back to when I was in early middle-school. I had a sit-down chat with my father about possible careers and he listed the typical asian careers: "Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant". I don't like blood much. I'm not a good talker. And I like math. So I decided to go with accounting. Also, later on in grade 9, I found that accountants can make 6 digits + so I am doing a Commerce major for the Accounting specialization. (FYI its not all for the money. Now that I'm taking accounting courses, I truly enjoy what I do).

My favourite elective courses to take are Ancient History courses. The entire course is like a story in such a far off place it leaves a lot of room for the imagination. It also kind of provides and escape from reality into some fantasy world (haha).
