Cheering from Afar

Some of you may know that I am currently in Hawaii and am boarding a cruise tomorrow. While you all pause to tell me how you’re jealous and how lucky I am, there is a part of me that wishes I was back home to watch the Canucks battle the BlackHawks. (Try not to mistake this for complaining, I am very very grateful to be here, if the ship has Versus, that would make this pineapple trip that much sweeter).

So to fulfill my duty as a fan, I felt it was time to release this. One of my odd new year’s resolutions this year was to write my own rap verse (I know, weird right?) and late one night, inspiration hit, and I succeeded, sort of. I realized that writing was one thing, but actually rapping? That takes skills that this Sam Chan does not possess. So the ‘song’ stayed in my harddrive, and I attempted to find someone with actual hip-hop talents to record it, but was unsuccessful. [...]

NYC and My New Facebook Fam Page

Hey everybody,

This is just a quick check in from New York, as I am here with @rainonasunnyday. I didn’t get wifi for the first 3 days so I have been pretty MIA from the online scene. I’m doing a series of updates on my new facebook fam page so feel free to add me to subscribe to my latest updates! I don’t really think of all you readers as fans, more so as fam, so hence the name change.

No worries, as I will be still maintaining this page as well and of course, my twitter.

Cheers!

Boys and their Toys: G.I. Joe Review

GI Joe Movie: Snake Eyes As it often is with action remakes of children superheroes, GI Joe received a bad vibe from critics. However, I found the movie to be extremely entertaining and well done. There are aircrafts, hand to hand combat, ninja stars, sword fights, submarines, nuclear missiles, all sorts of guns, and who could forget those halo super human enhancement suits. And they managed to do it all under 2 hours. Micheal Bay take note!

This is not to say that the movie is perfect. The ending leaves some major question marks, and although it signifies there will definitely be a sequel, it could have used some closure. I have a feeling that my girlfriend would not have enjoyed this movie as much as I did as it is surely targeted for the male audience. I admit that I never followed the GI Joe cartoon as a kid so I have no idea if it depicts the timeline properly, but after some wikipedia-ing, it seems to follow the story fairly close.

But overall, it was action filled from front to end with flashbacks that were tastefully done. Marlon Wayans provided some good humour to support Channing Tatum’s always serious look, and Sienna Miller…wow. I would definitely recommend it to any dude out there in search of a good action flick or any girl who’s a fan of Channing Tatum.

Dot Com Pho: Coquitlam Double Edition

In the past two weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of joining in on Dot Com Pho – an event that takes place every Saturday where Vancouver’s internet gurus’ get together to talk smack on the latest iPhone apps and enjoy some wonderful Vietnamese dining. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts because of the poor economy, my two episode stint got mashed into one. To make matters even worse, Head substitute honcho Stephen Fung decided to take a break from regular Pho dining and have regular gwai lo breakfast instead.

So here we are:

On a serious note, it was great to put some faces onto people I interact with Twitter every day and I learned a whole bunch of stuff (like how to magnetize cutlery). When I tell people that I want to be a ‘professional’ blogger, I often get a lot of “are you serious?” looks. To many, blogging is associated with hobbies like Xanga and Facebook. At meetups like Dot Com Pho, people there treat blogging as both a lifestyle and a career. If that intrigues you, I definitely encourage you to try and make it to one. They welcome anybody and everybody! In fact, you don’t even need a blog.

PS – in case you’re wondering if @stephenfung and @iphoneincanada are faking their constant argument to create publicity- they are 10x worse in real life. Trust me.
